Special thanks to Dan the Camera Man for shooting the 1st episode of
Pictures include; Throw the Goat, 7 Dirty Words and Rise of the Willing
The first episode of B@1′s showcase couldn’t have went any smoother. The bands were on time and all worked well with each other, enjoying the whole show and hanging out to mingle with all the fans. The crowd was unbelievable, members from other local projects came out to support the show – thanks for that we really appreciate your continued support (Provider, Riotgun, Broken Patron Saints, Caveman Voicebox, HDU, Whores of Tijuana, if I forgot anyone please excuse me). The staff was kind and helpful, the sound was great. We did get some video but didn’t record any audio on this one so we wont be uploading mediocre videos with distorted sound. Nothing worse than watching some of your favorite bands on YouTube with horrible sound, we wouldn’t do that to the bands that gave such an awesome performance. For our 2 day Events coming up in April and July we will be recording the shows live with B@1 Records and can use the video from all the shows to edit some killer live music videos for the bands involved. The April 420 Show is filling up fast with all the Hell Riders from the past and present so the first 2 day event stands to be an epic turn out of some of the greatest rock bands in SoCal today.
From Idylwild CA these guys were turned on to us by our dear friend from the underground rock scene, Lauren Boquette (Drown, Six and currently Lords of Ruin). Sometimes the greatest thing you can discover as a fan of music is all the stuff your friends are into. Well these guys showed up with the intent to impress and succeeded gratefully and graciously. With a Desert Rock/ Punk Rock sound mixing in some metal and jam too, Throw the Goat was awesome to watch. A 4 piece with Bassist/Vocalist, Michael, fronting the band (playing with his fingers I’d like to add) and Drummer, Tim, that could kick your face in, these guys brought the noise. Later on saying “I didn’t know we could play that loud.” referring to Rise of the Willing’s set later on in the night. Two Guitars Johnny and Brian taking turns in the spot light, playing with a passion for the songs that transfers through in the vibe of the audience. It seems these guys have been playing with each other for a long time or maybe just have that “click”. Everything went great for these guys who were mentioning a week before that they might have to use a session drummer because their drummer might not be able to make the gig. However Tim did make it and Throw the Goat was a great beginning to the B@1 Showcase.
Was up next. The OC locals took the stage with a vengeance. We have been fans of these guys for sometime and were stoked that they wanted in our little B@1 family. Another 4 piece project fronted by Bassist/Vocalist, Brian (again another finger player), this band has probably perfected their sound by adding a second guitarist, Mike, to the line up creating a thicker heavier vibe. Probably one of the most solid Drummers in OC, Nate the back bone of the band plays with an ease and authority that demands attention. A mix of dirty rock and metal, definitely an Orange County veteran party band, with lead guitar solo’s that can take you back in time for the diverse style of Joel their lead guitarist. Another great set by a legendary local band.
Outta 29 Palms, the Willing came to our town again to destroy all that we know about the desert rock scene. A power trio that is so heavy and loud they should have their own zip code. Members referred to as 2 fat guys and a tooth pick, all three excellent tattoo artists as well as awesome musicians (is there anything these guys can’t do?). Drummer John (Yarn), who also plays guitar in another 29 Palms band A’rk, hits the drums so damn hard that I could feel the air from the bass drum 10 feet away. Caveman Kyle fronts the band and plays guitar, with heavy slow riffs that put you in a state of meditation and fast crunching chords that make you wanna drive fast. Dave’s bass tone reminds me of desert legend Scott Reeder of Kyuss while adding his own eq and distortion to the mix, creating a background of doom that is sadly missing in Orange County today. We hope to change all that with these showcases by bringing bands out from the High Desert and up from San Diego. Rise of the Willing fans will be glad to know that they are releasing their first album this year in March (2012), a must have for any metal/doom/stoner/desert rock fan out there.
Again we are truly grateful for all the bands that work with us and fans that we pick up along the way. Support underground music, don’t steal it. B @ 1 or get off the planet.
